178) BIMBLA GOJJU

BIMBLA GOJJU
A TANGY TANGY HOT & SOUR
QUICK SIDE DISH
A SIMPLE RECIPE FOR EXTREME TASTE LOVERS

Ingredients:

     1)    Mature cucumber tree fruit – 250 gm.

     2)    Hot green chilies – 2 nos.
     3)    Dry hot red chilies – 3 Nos.
     4)    Salt – 1½ teaspoons
     5)    Asafoetida powder – 3 to 4 pinches
     6)    Coconut oil – 1 teaspoon

To Cook:

Wash the cucumber tree fruit and cut off the tips. Cut each fruit lengthwise into two halves. Pluck off the stems of the green chilies and cut once lengthwise and once across into 4 pieces.

Put the cut fruit and the chilies into a pressure cooker. Tip in the salt and pour in 100 ml. of water. Cover with the lid and set on high heat. As soon as you hear the first whistle, switch off the heat and let cool naturally.

When the steam has subsided, open the cooker and mash the fruit lightly with a ladle. Sprinkle the asafoetida powder and dribble the coconut oil. Your special bimbla gojju is ready. It is guaranteed to give you a shiver and a shudder on tasting. Those who do not like sour food or have sensitive teeth, please do not try this recipe. Brave, sour, tangy foodies, make it a point to try this recipe for sure.

Note:

If cucumber tree fruit is not available, you can use star fruit or tender mangoes or tender hog plums in which case, the gojju will be far less sour. The hog plum gojju and the mango gojju will give you better flavor. The cucumber tree fruit, however, takes the first prize for sourness.
